Project 2

For my second project I attempted the design of a business card for my head football coach, Chris Hull. He told me he didn’t necessarily needed one, but it would help him network with other schools and coaches.  Since I was so thankful and appreciative of him and his impact on my life, I thought it would be a good thing to make for him as a gift.
When making a business card there were many things I had to take into account.  For instance standard card size, legibility, creativity and making sure all needed information were given.  The U.S. standard card size is 3.5 x 2 inches.  I knew the relative information that needed to be provided; cell phone number, school address, e-mail, and athletic office number.  Most of my sketching consisted of just quick layout designs.

  • These are some of the original designs made.

  • Here is the one that Coach Hull liked the most and felt was the most effective.

Coach Cards

These first two were made following a more traditional design/ layout.  It's simple, legible and neat.  The school emblem gives them more of a classic look. Traditional business cards are effective because their style makes what's being advertised seem more official.

I like the design of the traditional cards but frankly I became bored with making essentially the same card with minor detail changes.  I tried to give them more of a modern look, to jazz the design up a little.

Im making a business card for my football coach

My football coach needs a business card to give to both high school and college coaches.  He needs it for when he's sending out film of a player to a college, exchanging film with another program and for other networking purposes.  It has to have Morristown high school's logo on it and his info and I know the standard American size for business cards is 3.5 x 2.  The project shouldn't take no more than a week to complete.

New idea..

This next idea that i have in mind is something that I have to do for a club at my church that I want to bring to the school. The club is called FCA (fellowship of christian athletes). It is a nation wide organization and it already has it's own logo so this not just other "generic graphic design logo project".  I have to make a poster/ flyer/ information sheet that can be put up around school.  It is a religious organization so it' s going to be a challenge to make an interesting poster that people would actually find interesting.

My logo shortened

I have my main logo, but it seems a bit to big and lengthy to be put on shoes, which is what i am thinking of doing next (im not sure i have to do some sketches).  So i tried to shorten my logo.  Not change it entirely but actually making two usable designs, but ultimately the same company. So here it is in a file that i put together which a shoe design.
P.S. the shoe thing is not set in stone i just wanted to try it out.

Where I am as of right now?

As of rite now i am torn between 4 possible logo designs. I have given up on the "ADOT" design through process of elimination and decided to got with "Star Line." Here are a few sketches showing what it has evolved from to what it is now.  The only thing left for me to do is decide which one I am going to commit to.  I like them all to some degree but I need feedback from others to help guide me through this process.

My First Project

For my first project assignment I am going to create my own sports wear/equipment company logo.  Just to be clear this was not one of my original options, but due to the fact that my other ideas were too premature.  I didn't want to waste time working on a project that was not well thought through.  i would feel pretty stupid if I worked on a project for two weeks just to hit a dead end.  This is one of those projects that will branch off into many others.  For now I'm just going to make my company name and logo.

Akil's Project Ideas

1. I was thinking of making 5 different desktop backgrounds based on a made up company name called "MakeBelieve."  Because of the company name i can express many creative types of ideas.  For example google image search the words "trippy graphic designs."  The company logo would be designed be made using illustrator and the actual background would be made with photoshop.

2. Make NFL/NBA/MLB merchandise.  Like all- star jersey designs, Championship patches, t- shirts, championship trophies, video game covers (Madden NFL 2047) and/or trading cards.

3. Make an ipod design, with skins and cover.. (pretty self- explanitory)

4. Make a font.  My font design will transcend into other random shape designs for tattoos and such. In essence I wanna make popular tattoos using my unique font.

5. Create a cartoon show. I will illustrate my own characters, settings and make some kind of DVD cover that has "season 1" on it or something to that effect.

PS- None of these ideas are in any particular order, I just tried to choose my most challenging and fun projects ideas. Please Comment :]
